The title of this talk is also the title of his most recent book, The Passport as Home: Comfort in Rootlessness. this is a story of an illustrious, Romanian-born, Hungarian-speaking, Vienna-schooled, Columbia-educated, and Harvard-formed middle -class Jewish professor of politics and other subjects. Markovits reveals a rootlessness that offers him comfort, succor, and the inspiration for his life's work.
Markovits is a dedicated teacher and influential mentor. He has been recognized with U-M's Golden Apple Award, an Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship, the Department of Political Science Tronstein Award for exceptional undergraduate teaching and Best Professor honors by the Michigan Daily.
