The involved artists are U-M students, local artists, and artists based in Japan, all of whom are nominated by members of our community. This exhibit presents portraits of eight feminists who have shaped the landscape of women's and gender rights in Japan and beyond. The portraits and accompanying texts challenge simplistic understandings of "feminism" while also drawing attention to a diversity of experiences, needs, and activism within Japan.
