How to Navigate Small Talk as an International Student

"In the United States, many people participate in what is called ""small
talk"", where you make conversation with strangers or acquaintances about
non-controversial topics, such as the weather, sports, or popular
television shows. “Small talk” is one of the ways in American culture to
chat about harmless topics in order to establish a connection and start to
build a friendship.

For example, while waiting for aninterview, in line at a M-Den, or in an
elevator on campus, don’t be startled if a stranger says something to you
like, “Did you watch the Football Game last night? What a game!” They might
also make a joke about the long line you’re both in, or comment on the
current situation.

If you are interested in learning more about """"small talk"""", nowit’s your
chance to sign up for this workshop on how to navigate smalltalk as an
international student. In this workshop, we will educate youon what is
small talk and you will also have the chance to practice small talk with
Peers!"
