Frances Luke Accord // Christ Dupont
A Midwestern double bill
When Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers put their songs and voices together, there is a delicate magic that commands the room to attention. The duo is known as Frances Luke Accord, and they are what NPR’s Mountain Stage calls “the definition of lean-in music.” Their soft, contemplative vintage of indie-folk gestures toward a timelessness that honors the Simon & Garfunkel comparisons but pushes beyond into the world of Bon Iver, Jose Gonzalez, and progressive folk music. The duo's 2021 "Sunnyside EP" (2021) offered a glimpse into the body of work Frances Luke Accord has developed in the midst of the COVID19 Covid pandemic, and they come to Michigan with their long-awaited sophomore album.
Chris Dupont comes from Grand Rapids and now lives in Ypsilanti. He describes what he does as "folk/ambient/singer-songwriter" music, and he's been influenced by James Taylor, Glen Hansard, Brian Eno, Bon Iver, and Fleetwood Mac. A promising combination! He says he reads a lot of Bradbury and Tolkien. This is a songwriter who will transport you into his own world. Jeff Milo of eCurrent praises Chris for “lyrics that punch the gut in slow motion.” Chris also comes to The Ark with a new release, “Floodplains.”
