Book Launch for "The ABC's of Black Authors" by Lauren McHale Mills
Join us for the book launch of The ABC's of Black Authors, a new coloring
book and reading guide created by Stamps Student Lauren McHale Mills (BFA
‘23). Every spread in the book contains an illustration of an author,
with a short biography and reading list.
For the event, Lauren will be in conversation with fellow Stamps
student Moteniola Ogundipe (BFA ‘23) speaking about how she created the book
and why she felt publishing this book right now was so important. Following
Lauren and Moteniola’s conversation there will be a book signing, a reception
with light refreshments and a few select spreads from the book available for
guests to color and take home. There will also be the opportunity for you to
purchase your own copy of the book.
Lauren explains: “I created this book to primarily introduce
new audiences to a small selection of Black authors they may not have previously
known. I also hoped that individuals who were already lovers of Black
literature, or literature in general, would find enjoyment in these pages. My
aim for this book was for it to serve as not only a coloring book, but an artist
book. As these 26 illustrations were crafted to be stand-alone art pieces as
well.”
The first 10 guests will receive a complimentary copy of the book.
Additional books will be for sale.
