Ph.D. Connections Conference Career Panel: Technology Industries

The technology industry is rapidly expanding and generating interesting and rewarding career opportunities for Ph.D. holders with a variety of academic backgrounds. Panelists will share lessons learned from their own career paths and provide insights into applying your Ph.D. in the technology industry.

Panelists
Mazy Gillis is senior director of principal based management at Georgia-Pacific, LLC. Mazy earned her B.A. in English and psychology from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Wayne State University.
Melissa Haskell is a senior scientist at Hyperfine, where she develops new data acquisition and image reconstruction methods for point-of-care, portable brain MRI. Her research focuses on computational methods to correct various MRI artifacts, including those from patient movement and magnetic field inhomogeneities. Melissa received her B.A. in physics from Bowdoin College in 2013, a Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University in 2019, and completed her postdoctoral training in the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2022.
Danny Soltan earned a Ph.D. in macromolecular science and engineering from the University of Michigan in 2017, and has a background in materials science, broadly. His dissertation work focused on composite design for large-scale structural engineering and infrastructure. His professional career has included work in university-based technology transfer and commercialization, technology scouting and open innovation consulting, and corporate open-innovation strategy.
