Peeling Back the Curtain: Demystifying the Path to Leadership Roles in Academia for First-Generation Students

As a first-generation graduate student, have you ever wondered what the journey to leadership roles in academia, such as dean or chair, looks like? If so, please join us for an exciting virtual professional development panel designed specifically for first-generation students. The main objectives of this panel are to begin to offer a roadmap, insider tips, and critical advice for first generation students to navigate elite spaces in academia. This panel will feature Michigan State University Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Jabbar Bennett, along with other faculty members from the University of Michigan.
Through this career panel, not only will you get to connect with faculty in third space careers about their different career trajectories, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions through a Q&A session and gain insights on how relationships are established and problem-solving is approached in these roles. By participating in this career panel, you will get to take an active step toward developing your professional networks, gain understanding and advice on your next steps beyond graduate school, and learn about the plethora of third space careers available to you after graduation.
Registration is required at https://myumi.ch/byqkW.
