Are You Smarter Than A 5th Semester?
We'll be playing a fun game of "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Semester?" - a take on the gameshow "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?". Please find a description of the game (developed by our brilliant workshop member, AunRika Tucker-Shabazz) below:
"The game, are you smarter than a fifth semester? is designed to help create an intergenerational community of sociologists. Specifically, the point is to get cross pollination across the semesters. A fifth semester sociology, PhD student, is someone in their third year. It’s a game show style that can definitely support an entire 75 minute workshop session: participants, who are up to their third year, can participate in teams against participants up to their 10th semester, or fifth years; and they are up against faculty who are up to their third year as a postdoc or assistant professor. This game structure is designed to make explicit the informal transcript/curriculum dealing with professional politics, journal submissions, revise and resubmit timelines, as well as teaching about fellowships and conference organizing across different levels of the career path."
