“Global Rings Improv” world premieres, Dawn Avery, carillon
Part of Professor Dawn Avery's Residency at U-M
GRAMMY- and NAMA-nominated world music artist, ethnomusicologist, and composer, Dawn Avery (of Mohawk heritage) offers presentations, meditations, and performance of new carillon works in Residency at U-M, April 11-12, 2023.
This recital at 5:30pm will feature world premieres of Global Rings Improv pieces, including Dawn Avery’s “Sacred World: Onenh’sa”
Global Rings Improv (GRI) is a trailblazing equity-focused collaborative initiative led by Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra with U-M carillon students. In their ongoing efforts to diversify carillon repertoire, Ruiter-Feenstra and students have composed new works and developed fresh improvisation applications on global tunes and stories.
