CAPAL 2023 Roundtable Series: U.S. Department of State

The AANHPI Roundtable Series provides an opportunity for students and young professionals to learn from public service leaders in our community in a conversational setting for one hour. Each roundtable featurespublic service leaders from one organization and accommodates 25-30 attendees. This year, CAPAL is launching a series of monthly Roundtable discussions. These events will be held on a virtual platform. Registration is FREE for all attendees.

This session will feature the U.S. Department of State with Timothy R. Johnson, National Recruitment Officer. The U.S. Department of State protects and promotes U.S. security, prosperity, and democratic values and shapes an international environment in which all Americans can thrive.

Tim Johnson is a Foreign Service officer who joined the Department of State mid-career after 14 years in the private sector as aHuman Resources professional. He is currently assigned as a Recruitment Officer within the Recruitment Division of the Talent Acquisition Office. Tim’s overseas assignments include various management and consular positions in El Salvador, Colombia, Russia, Iraq, and Chad. Domestic assignments include positions with International Narcotics & Law Enforcement, Overseas Buildings Operations, European-International Organizations, the Office of Foreign Missions, and currently with Global Talent Management asa National Recruiter.

Tim earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he double majored in Criminal Justice and Political Science. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Duke University School of Law, and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from the University of South Carolina. Tim’s hobbies include international travel and collecting all matter of items related to travel. He was excited to join Global Talent Management as a National Recruiter since recruitment is one of his favorite HR functions. Tim enjoys meeting and greeting people and telling them about where he works. He looks forward to making a contribution towards securing the future of the Department of State.
