This year marks the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. For many years it has been debated as to where the most significant contributions to the culture have developed. New York and Los Angeles often are at the forefront of the discussion, with Atlanta and Houston receiving honorable mentions. Few make mention of Detroit. As a city with many cultural bona fides, Hip-Hop is a genre Detroit is not “known” for. Yet, Detroit does have a rich history of contributions to Hip-Hop culture.
