NPM’s Social Innovation Series brings top leaders to campus who cut across boundaries to provide innovative, practical solutions for society’s biggest challenges. At a young age, Daniel Lurie is an emerging voice for philanthropy and has started an organization called Tipping Point – named after the book by Malcolm Gladwell about how a small group of people can make a big difference.

Tipping Point has raised over $50 million to fund the most effective poverty-fighting organizations in the Bay Area. Tipping Point invests in groups that have strong leadership, clean financials, and the desire to work with an engaged funder towards measurable results in four key issue areas: Education + Youth, Employment, Family Wellness, and Housing.

Before founding the Tipping Point in 2005, Daniel worked and the Robin Hood Foundation in New York City and set out to adapt the organization’s model to fit his home community in the Bay Area. Through his new philanthropy approach, all operating and fundraising costs are covered by board members and each dollar raised is expended within a year; there is no endowment. Join Daniel as he shares his story and the work being done in poverty alleviation.
