Science Success Series- How to Tell Good Science from Bad Science
Science Success Series- Going to Grad School
You learn to read scientific papers in class, but how do you know if what a paper is saying is actually true? Learn to identify misleading results (deliberate or accidental) in research with an exercise from the famous University of Washington course Calling Bullshit.
We'll look at examples of science from journalists, researchers, and government officials, each of which have serious errors but still got published. Just what is wrong with the papers? How did the editors neglect to find the issue with their conclusions? Why did the scientist who wrote up the results not see their own error?
