Ann Arbor Django Reinhardt Festival
Presented by The Ark
Jazz from Michigan’s rich Hot Club–style scene
The debut Ann Arbor Django Reinhardt Festival will be hosted by guitarist Andrew Brown of Ann Arbor's own award winning Djangophonique ensemble. It will feature some of Michigan's premiere players in the Hot Club style: guitarist Stephen Plummer from Third Coast Swing, guitarist Evan Perri from The Hot Club of Detroit, clarinetist Tyler Rindo and bassist Jorian Olk-Szost from Djangophonique, guitarist David Bendina, Brad Fritcher on trumpet, and special guest vocalist Katie Smith. This all-star cast will collaborate, improvise, and feature the stylings of each player and ensemble as they pay tribute to legendary guitar innovator Django Reinhardt by playing some of his most famous compositions, deepest cuts, musical lineage, and music from the contemporary jazz manouche cannon of which his work is considered to be the blueprint. For longtime lovers or the newly curious; this celebration of Hot Club music will give listeners a deeper appreciation for the joyous energy and community that surrounds this tradition of social music.
