HEP-Astro Seminar | X-Ray -- Cosmic Shear Cross-Correlations: First Detection and Constraints on Baryonic Effects

Tássia Ferreira (University of Oxford)

In this presentation, I will discuss the recent discovery of the cross-correlation between cosmic shear and the diffuse X-ray background. This correlation is extremely important for cosmological and astrophysical analyses, as it enables us to impose precise constraints on critical physical parameters governing the impact of baryonic effects on the matter power spectrum. Specifically, we obtain strong bounds for the parameter describing the average mass of haloes at which feedback mechanisms have expelled half of their gas content, \log_{10}(M_c/M_\odot). I will explain the data sets used, the theoretical models considered and conclude with our results and steps for future analyses.
