U-M staff and faculty are invited to join us to learn about the mental health needs of many undocumented students and the community in general, as well as strategies, resources, and tools to address these needs.
Featuring: Jose Perez, LMFTJose Perez, LMFT, is a DACAmented licensed marriage and family therapist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jose has the privilege of running the mental health department at Samaritan House San Mateo, where he helps increase access to mental health for uninsured immigrants. Additionally, Jose has a private practice specializing in immigrant mental health and treating trauma, depression, anxiety, and acculturation difficulties. Jose aims at providing a collaborative approach to care utilizing strength-based approaches to help clients reach their self-actualization, resilience, and healing.
Moreover, Jose is a volunteer clinical supervisor and clinician for Refugee Health Alliance, an organization that provides mental health services to immigrants at the border; a mentor in the Undocu-Professionals Mentorship Program; a contracted clinical supervisor for Redwood City School District; and a clinical supervisor and group facilitator for Immigrants Rising. Jose has presented and conducted workshops on trauma-informed care, self-care, immigrant mental health, positive parenting, and effective programming strategies supporting undocumented students and individuals. In his spare time, Jose is finishing his PsyD in clinical psychology, enjoys hiking, hanging out with his puppy, and trying new foods and eateries.
