“Moving Toward More Rational Care at the End of Life – Without Rationing!”

Presentation by Sally Clark Stearns, PhD, from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina.
As a health economist, much of her research focuses on the comparative effectiveness of treatment interventions on outcomes. Dr. Stearns has led a number of studies related to the use of acute care by the elderly, the cost and use of health services at the end of life, nursing home utilization, and cost-effectiveness and comparative effectiveness of medical interventions and health care technology. In 2011, she was selected as a Health and Aging Policy Fellow by the Department of Health and Human Services.
