The University of Michigan Detroit Center is excited to announce the return of the Sankofa film series for 2012-2013 academic year. The series re-launch begins with the film, Marley on Friday, December 7 beginning at 6pm. The event includes complimentary admission, parking and light refreshments to all attendees.

Marley, a Kevin MacDonald production, is the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary and legend, Bob Marley. From his early days to his rise to international superstardom, Bob Marley's universal appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled. Marley was created with the support of Bob Marley’s family and features rare footage, never before seen performances, previously unreleased music and revelatory interviews with the people who knew him best.

Professor Perry Mars of Wayne State University's Africana Studies Department will provide introductory remarks before the film.

The 2012-2013 Sankofa Film Series is a collaborative effort between U-M Dearborn’s African American Studies Program and the U-M Detroit Center.
