The José Martí Open Mic is an event honoring activist José Martí a Cuban poet, essayist, journalist, and revolutionary philosopher, considered a key figure in Latin American literature. He played a significant role in the movement for Cuban independence from Spain and is revered as a national hero in Cuba. He used his art as a vessel to express his opinion and we are encouraging YOU to share your voice too! The stakes are low! Share your favorite quote from a book and explain what it means to you, talk about your favorite movie, and share your favorite song. You do not need to be scripted, allow yourself to streamline your thoughts about current events happening in the world. The space is yours! We are looking for Writers, Musicians, Vocalists, Actors, Dancers, and Visual Artists to present existing or original artworks. Selected artists will perform in front of a live audience! Performers of all skill levels are welcome!
