General Counsel of Japan-based companies in the United States should understand these cultural aspects when providing legal representation. Similarly, General Counsel should be able to understand and convey to Japanese management the unique aspects of the American legal system.

About the Speaker: Richard O. Briggs received a M.A degree in Japanese Studies from the University of Michigan in 1975 and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1977.
