Tues, March 19, 7pm: Part I: Introduction to orchids, covering the various types of orchids, a look at their ecology and how it relates to growing them indoors or in a greenhouse; growing under artificial lights; basic culture of lower to medium-light loving orchids such as Paphiopedilum and Phalaenopsis; orchid growing media, water, fertilizer, humidity, light and temperature for the above plants.
Part II
Tues, March 26, 2013, 7pm
Basic culture of medium to bright-light loving orchids such as Cattleya, Cymbidium, Dendrobium, and others; orchid growing media, water, fertilizer, humidity, light and temperature for the above plants; pests and diseases and their control with home, organic, and other remedies; what to look for when buying an orchid plant.
Part III
Tues, April 2, 7 pm
Hands-on training in potting and mounting orchids, as well as growing in baskets. Includes selection of pots & media, pruning & dividing. Growing orchids using hydroponic and semi-hydroponic methods. Each participant will take home four different types of orchids.
