OGPS Student Engaged Mentee Workshop Series

Multiple conference events and sessions

The "Engaged Mentee" series is for student researchers at any stage of training. This program is an evidence-based, interactive approach designed to provide participants with an understanding of the mentoring process and effective engagement methods. The program aims to provide a framework for mentees in their mentoring relationships, help understand personal preferences, and understand and overcome barriers to a healthy mentor/mentee relationship. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with various methods in mentee communication and a forum in which to solve mentee dilemmas with the help of their peers.

By the end of the program, mentees will develop an understanding of their preferences for mentoring relationships and have a toolbox of strategies for advocating for that relationship, as well as approaches when mentor/mentee relationships become difficult. The six themes that will be covered during the workshop are listed below:1. Understanding the Mentor/Mentee Relationship
2. Aligning Expectations
3. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Lab
4. Managing Tension & Conflict
5. Difficult Conversations
6. Mentoring Plans to Build Effective Mentoring Relationships
