Jewish American Photographers and Their Family Albums

OLLI at U-M (50+)

In the postwar decades, extending into the 1980s, Jewish American photographers produced diverse "family albums" picturing biological, chosen, and alternative families. This lecture extends the concept of family albums to explore some of the images of "families," and the stories they tell, by such photographers as Diane Arbus, Bruce Davidson, Nan Goldin, Mitch Epstein, Larry Sultan, and Larry Fink.
Speaker: Deborah Dash Moore, Professor of History. As an historian of American Jews, Professor Moore focuses on the twentieth century experience. She has authored and edited several books.
This is the fifth of 9 lectures in OLLI's monthly 2nd Tuesday Distinguished Lecture Series.

Cost

  • $45 for the 9-lecture series, $20 annual membership fee, (or $10 per lecture, payable at the door).
