Join the Center for Academic Innovation for the latest Innovation Insights Research Talk featuring Mary Ellen Wiltrout, director of online and blended learning initiatives at MIT's Department of Biology.

This talk will highlight several research projects that include engagement in self-paced versus instructor-paced courses, design that prevents dishonest behavior in MOOC summative assessment, and data-informed revision of formative assessments. Dr. Wiltrout will also discuss the importance of instructor presence during an open online course run.

About Mary Ellen Wiltrout

Mary Ellen Wiltrout leads the execution of the digital learning strategy for Biology at MIT. She mentors instructors, postdoctoral fellows, and students, manages projects involving MOOCs and hybrid learning experiences, and conducts research on the design of digital learning experiences. Three of her MOOCs are ranked on the best online courses of all time list by Class Central. Prior to her current position, Mary Ellen earned her Ph.D. in Biology from MIT and then taught at Harvard University. Mary Ellen’s broader roles include co-leading the MIT Digital Learning Lab, organizing conferences and workshops on digital learning, and serving on committees across MIT.
