Where? LSA Honors Lounge, 1330 Mason HallAvram Mack '94 is a native of New York City who graduated from the University of Michigan having completed his honors thesis in history--specifically the history of medicine. From Michigan he attended Weill Cornell Medical School and then residencies at Harvard, Columbia, and then NYU. After a year at the Medical University of South Carolina he was the director of medical student education at Georgetown for a decade and has since been a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a senior child psychiatrist there.
Dr. Mack's career has has multiple periods of focus, from general adult care to child psychiatry; he has been a part of the lead faculty at Georgetown and Penn, with specific roles in teaching in those institutions. He has been made a fellow of several national organizations and has written several papers and books (three on addictive disorders). He also serves as an expert witness around the nation in his field. Over the past years Dr. Mack has focused on leading improvement in hospitals and practices in terms of improving the quality of care and protecting the safety of patients and staff members. Now at CHOP he has focused on building a large coalition of engaged stakeholders to address safety among patients with behavioral problems. He has extensive experience with the promotions process and the admissions process at Georgetown and Penn and can speak about careers (aside from his own) at these and other settings.
