The Detroit Observatory The Detroit Observatory
The Detroit Observatory
Did you know that the Detroit Observatory didn't stop working on cloudy days? A rainy day can be a nuisance when you're trying to observe the cosmos, but that didn't stop our astronomers! In the 1880's the Detroit Observatory became a hotbed for meteorological research, with staff and instruments dedicated to observing and recording the daily weather patterns of Ann Arbor.

Join us at 7PM for a talk on our third director, Mark Harrington, a leading meteorologist who helped jumpstart meteorology at the Detroit observatory and became the first civilian head of the United States Weather Bureau.

Talk will be followed by tours of the historic Detroit Observatory, featuring exhibits of the original instruments and records used by Harrington in the 1880's!
