Join Mighty Earth on March 21st from 6:00-8:00 PM @NUB 2520 to hear Samra'a Luqman discuss her experience living next to the US Steel plant in Dearborn and the negative effects of the plant on communities and the environment in Michigan.

The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) represents a huge opportunity to cut tailpipe emissions and address high-carbon materials used to build cars like steel and aluminum which represent 10% of annual greenhouse gases (GHGs). As more and more car companies pledge to become fully electric in the coming decades, they plan to use more steel and aluminum to produce lighter cars. These production of these materials results in high levels of air and water pollution, in addition to increased deforestation and human rights abuses. In Dearborn, the US Steel plant has resulted in a public health crisis, with 690 deaths and 1,800 hospitalizations attributed to the rise in air pollution. The auto-industry supply chain must be modified to reduce environmental and societal damages. Come speak with Samra'a to learn more about the issue, how it affects you, and what you can do to help.

BEVERAGES AND SNACKS WILL BE PROVIDED.
