Speaker: George Shirley, Joseph Edgar Maddy Distinguished University Emeritus Professor of Music, Voice Department, School of Music, Theatre & Dance, University of Michigan. Professor Shirley has won international acclaim for his performances with the Metropolitan Opera and other major opera houses and festivals in Europe, Asia, and South America. He has performed in more than 80 operatic roles and received a Grammy Award in 1968 for his role of Ferrando in Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte." He is an alumnus of Wayne State University.

Professor Shirley will be presenting a brief overview of African-American influence upon the evolution of the performing arts in North America.

Cost

  • $30 for the 6-lecture series; $20 Annual Membership Fee (or $10 per lecture, payable at the door.)
