BME Summer Workshops @ Michigan
Thriving in Academia: Flourishing in a Culture of Burnout
The goal of the BME Summer Workshops @ Michigan series is to establish the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as a place to gather, learn, and network – each summer – on important research topics in biomedical engineering. These workshops will provide a collaborative forum to present current research progress and discuss future research opportunities at the interface of engineering and medicine.
This interdisciplinary workshop will provide strategies for supporting positive well-being in academia. The event will include professional development sessions, roundtable discussions, networking, and social activities. It will address topics of burnout, overwork, and stress and offer strategies to support well-being and thriving in academia. Parallel sessions and discussions will focus on cultivating thriving as a leader, cultivating well-being for graduate advisees, and supporting undergraduate student well-being.
This event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., in the Lurie Engineering Center Johnson Rooms, 1221 Beal Avenue, Ann Arbor, 48109, and features the following confirmed speakers:
Shayn Pierce-Cottler, Ph.D., BME Department Chair, University of Virginia
Lisa Pruitt, Ph.D., Lawrence Talbot Professor of Engineering, and Professor of Mechanical and Bioengineering, UC Berkeley
More details to come as agenda is finalized.
Please complete and return the form by July 8, 2024, to reserve your spot. For technical questions about the presentations, please contact Karin Jensen at kjens@umich.edu. For general questions, please contact Michele Santillan at mssantil@umich.edu.
