Members of the PC CARES team, Dr. Lisa Wexler and Tara Schimdt, will be providing (2) in person Learning Circles and (2) Virtual Learning Circles to our University of Michigan Community starting August 23, 2024 and finishing the last Learning Circle during the Fall semester. PC CARES learning circles are meaningful conversations that empower our community to develop realistic, feasible, and locally-led solutions to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health. These circles provide an opportunity to envision actionable, sustainable, and research-informed strategies for suicide prevention. The program consists of four sessions, each lasting 2-3 hours, where participants explore concise pieces of research and engage in discussions across multiple sectors about what the research reveals and how these insights can be applied within our community. The core of PC CARES lies in its name—Promoting Community Conversations. This is not a traditional lecture model where an expert talks to an audience. Instead, we believe that communities hold the key to addressing the complex issue of youth suicide through grassroots, sustainable solutions that foster a shift from hopelessness to empowerment. For those interested, we will be offering a total of 8.5 Social Work CEU's through NASW and 8.5 "Related" CEU's through the Michigan Certification Board of Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) for the completion of all four Learning Circles.
