"Lethal Religion: Negotiating the Volatile Mix of Religion and Politics Today."
Abstract:
Religion is a powerful and pervasive force in human society. Religious claims and commitments have often inspired acts of violence: 9/11, continuing conflict in the Middle East, and domestic issues in the US present numerous contemporary examples. This lecture will explore the explosive mix of religion and politics today in the three Abrahamic religions in order to identify major obstacles and opportunities for a more hopeful and healthy future.
