About the speaker: Amy Cohn is the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering at U-M as well as the Chief Transformation Officer at Michigan Medicine
and the Faculty Director for the Center for Healthcare Engineering & Patient Safety (CHEPS).

Abstract: After providing foundational knowledge about emergency medicine, this talk will introduce attendees to some of the biggest challenges that emergency departments face in the United States today: overcrowding and long waits. We will brainstorm strategies for addressing these challenges, digging deeper into the tactics needed to develop some of these strategies. We will also explore their potential pitfalls and unintended consequences, focusing not only on the clinical, but also the financial, workflow, information technology, cultural, ethical, equitability, and other implications.

This event is a part of the IOE 813 "Providing Better Healthcare Through Systems Engineering" Seminar Series. For more information, email ioe813-cheps@umich.edu.
