About the speaker:
Andrew M. Fine, MD, MPH, Senior Associate Physician in Pediatrics, Boston Children's Hospital, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, Harvard Medical School.

Abstract:
As mental health issues among teenagers continue to rise in the U.S., pediatric emergency departments are increasingly serving on the frontline. However, these settings often face limited resources, stretched staff, and long wait times for inpatient treatment, each of which can compromise patient experience and quality of care. It’s a safety net on the cusp of collapse. Together, along with experts, clinicians, and community stakeholders, we will explore innovative strategies to enhance the experiences of teenagers presenting to the emergency department amid mental health crises. Join us in brainstorming strategies to best support these patients—whether through preventative health, emergency department care, or expedited placement—and prevent our safety net from collapsing.
