About the speaker: This dialogue will lie at the intersection of human factors and surgical team dynamics, focusing specifically on the unique challenges faced by pregnant team members. The discussion will delve into the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and how these can influence performance in the operating room. Additionally, the dialogue will examine potential strategies for mitigating these challenges and consider how workplaces can adapt to better support this population, ultimately aiming to enhance both safety and efficiency in surgical environments.

Abstract: Kristin Chrouser, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in Urology and the S. Matthew Berge Research Professor at the University of Michigan and the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Her research aims to maximize surgical outcomes by optimizing surgeon performance, intraoperative teamwork, and surgeon wellbeing. In addition to teaching operative urology, she also educates trainees in surgical ergonomics, non-technical skills, and improving workplace wellbeing by utilizing quality improvement techniques. She serves as site director for the VA surgery CRQS program and is the High Reliability Organizational (HRO) Clinician Champion at the Ann Arbor VA. She received her medical degree from Mayo Medical School and also completed her urology residency there. She was a fellow in international urology and reconstruction with IVUmed and completed her MPH at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
