New Media Lab: Art in Action, Inspired by Francis Alÿs
In this workshop participants will take a closer look at the video installation Guards by Francis Alÿs, and then join a discussion with the instructor about other themes and works by the artist. Often the way contemporary artists use various media, like video, performance, or social action may be enigmatic and hard to penetrate at first. This looking laboratory will introduce new ways of seeing and engaging in the poetry of experience that such works attempt to communicate. The workshop will culminate in a collaborative activity that uses the space of the museum and the street as a matrix for a larger group work of art. All levels welcome; no experience necessary.
