IOE 101: Make your career like a jungle gym: try new things and keep learning
Jackie Lapinski with Trinity Health Michigan
About the speaker: Jackie is responsible for coordinating and advancing Performance Excellence (PE) work across Trinity Health Michigan. Jackie has over 20 years of experience in continuous improvement and administration in hospitals. She was a Management Engineer at the University of Chicago Hospital, and then at the University of Michigan Hospital. She joined the University of Michigan Mott Children and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospitals as a Project Manager in 2005. She was a part of the leadership team planning for and successfully opening a new 1.1 million square foot, $748 million facility in 2011. Jackie joined Trinity Health in 2014 as the Regional Director of Performance Excellence.
Jackie graduated with a Bachelor's and Master of Science in Engineering in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. She is certified in Lean Healthcare and has been an instructor in the Lean Healthcare certification course at the University of Michigan College of Engineering. She holds a Six Sigma Green belt and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Outside of work, Jackie enjoys spending time with her husband Phil, and 2 children. She is active in many community groups and serves on the Boards of the Washtenaw Housing Alliance and Food Gatherers.
Abstract: Jackie has never had a firm plan or goal for her career but has enjoyed a career full of different experiences working as an IOE in several major health systems. Her upbringing from a community-focused, adaptable mom and an engineer, immigrant dad led her to a successful career with strengths in analysis, logic, facilitation, and problem-solving. Jackie will share her career journey and some lessons she’s picked up along the way to inspire the next generation of engineers to have fun and keep learning in their careers.
