DEI Lecture Series: Building Inclusive Communities: DEI Strategies in Engineering
This DEI Lecture series will feature two lectures on building inclusive communities. The first lecture presented by Aaron Morris and Alexandra S. Piotrowski-Daspit will dive into the transformative journey of the BME DEI Book Club, an initiative that brought together 50 undergraduate students, postdocs, faculty and staff to explore critical themes in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Learn more about how the club’s impactful conversations led to real change — like implementing “empowerment declarations” in exams that boosted student confidence.
The second lecture presented by Angela Violi will focus on Engineering SUCCESS (Supporting Undergraduate Career, Community Engagement, and Soft Skills in DEI) an innovative program designed to empower undergraduate students by connecting them with young alumni for invaluable insights on academic and professional pathways. In addition to academic guidance, the program emphasizes the importance of soft skills such as eIective communication, teamwork and leadership, which are essential for professional success. Learn how this program fosters community, growth and lasting mentorship.
