Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft Design Optimization (Dissertation Defense)

Fueling aircraft with hydrogen is one potentially compelling approach to achieve net-zero emissions in the aviation sector. However, it is still unclear which flights hydrogen aircraft are well-suited to fly and how best to design aircraft around hydrogen’s unique properties and requirements. This work seeks to answer some of these questions by using computational models and numerical optimization to investigate the merits of different aircraft configurations, hydrogen storage techniques, and propulsion methods.
