Numerical Methods for Coupled Aeropropulsive Design Optimization

Aeropropulsive designs have been widely investigated in different levels of complexity. Unconventional propulsion systems are used in certain innovative aircraft ideas to save energy consumption such as over-wing nacelle. However, there are only a few real innovative aircraft designs due to challenges in performing aeropropulsive optimizations and investigating their benefits. To improve the current state-of-the-art methods in CFD-based aeropropulsive optimization, this thesis focuses on developing methods to enhance current models and allow more rapid coupled aeropropulsive design optimizations.
