Join us for a day dedicated to ending solitary confinement---an inhumane and ineffective practice. Catered lunch will be provided from 12-2pm - first come, first serve. Keynote speaker Dr. Margo Schlanger, U-M Professor of Law, will speak to the widespread implications of solitary confinement and open the floor for questions. She will be joined by panelists representing legal and grassroots organizations working on criminal justice reform across Michigan and a panel of formerly incarcerated advocates. The event will also feature an art exhibition of letters from solitary confinement and a model solitary confinement cell. The event is free and open to the public, everyone is welcome.

Event Schedule is as follows: 12-12:50: Legal and Grassroots Organizing Panel, 1-1:50: Keynote Address, 2-2:50: Restorative Justice Workshop, 3-3:50: Formerly Incarcerated Advocates Panel, 4-5pm: Networking and Art Installation. Panelists include: Lois Pullano (Open-MI Door), Deborah LaBelle (Civil Rights Attorney), Jennifer Baker (Disability Rights Michigan), Jessica Zimbelman (Michigan State Appellate Defenders Office), Melissa Freel (End SaR Michigan), Ronnie Waters, (Safe and Just Michigan), Pete Martel (AFSC), Yusuf “Q” Qualls-El (PCAP), Demetrius Knuckles (Michigan Liberation), Mary Heinen (PCAP), and July Campbell (PCAP).
