Environmental Humanities Workshop: Group Reading Discussion
The Evolution of the Environmental Humanities in Two Articles
We hope you will join us for the first EHW event of the winter term! Together we will read "Thinking Through the Environment, Unsettling the Humanities" (2012)--the introductory piece to the Environmental Humanities journal's first volume--and Kyle Whyte's more recent piece, "Against Crisis Epistemology" (2021). Reading the evolution of the field across these two pieces, we will discuss how the EH journal initially imagined what it meant to be engaged in this work versus now. What concerns defined EH at its discursive advent, and in what ways have those investments remained the same and/or shifted? For those who do not necessarily consider themselves to be environmental humanists but are interested in learning more about how the field has been historically characterized, this event may be of interest! You can register to receive the readings via Sessions. We hope to see you there!
