Marshall Crenshaw and the Bottle Rockets
Can anyone who was listening to new music in the 1980s forget the songs of Marshall Crenshaw? To New Wave pop they brought country and R&B elements, they brought romantic yearning, they brought the craft of a true songwriter. Unlike most of the acts of that era of youthful musical attitude, southeast Michigan native Marshall Crenshaw is still going strong. These days the bespectacled romantic fool of the early 1980s is all grown up, but with his fabulous songwriting chops undiminished–and even augmented a bit by jazz harmonies on occasion. Stop by and pick up a copy of Marshall's recent limited-edition EP, "Stranger and Stranger," funded through Kickstarter! “I still think that recorded music is a great art form, I still love it and believe in it, and I’m still always striving for excellence. The fact that the Kickstarter thing was a success, and that people responded so well to the concept ... this is a really inspiring situation,” Marshall says. "And I think that it’s gonna be a good way for me to proceed into the future.”
Marshall appears this evening with the Missouri band The Bottle Rockets, who themselves added an intelligent lyrical spirit to the Americana genre. The Bottle Rockets will do a full set of their own and will then join Marshall Crenshaw for his set.
