Professor Badgley will summarize the major challenges and dilemmas of the modern global food system from both ecological and social perspectives. She will review new concepts and practices that have the potential to transform the food system in sustainable and fair directions. These transformations are occurring around the world mainly through grassroots efforts. She will discuss ways to promote further change. Dr. Badgley’s research focuses on the history of global biodiversity and includes extensive studies of ecosystems in the fossil record, biogeography of modern mammals, and sustainable agriculture.
