The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of this modern-day masterpiece set in the capitol of country music that traces the lives of 24 disparate characters over five days leading up to the concert for a populist outsider running for president on the Replacement Party ticket. Critics tripped over themselves with praise, calling it “the most original and provocative American movie in a very long time” and “the movie sensation that all other American movies this year will be measured against.” The cast includes Lily Tomlin, Karen Black, Geraldine Chaplin, and Keith Carradine, who won an Oscar for writing the song “I’m Easy.”
