Masahito Jimbo, MD, PhD, MPH, will present a talk entitled, “Can an interactive decision aid improve shared decision making? Preliminary results from DATES (Decision Aid to Technologically Enhance Shared Decision Making).”

Summary: In a recent review (CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians  Volume 63, Issue 3, pages 193–214, May/June 2013), we noted that only a quarter of decision aids on cancer screening actually evaluated their effect on shared decision making, and that the effect was variable. We report of our progress on our 4-year NCI-supported study that take a thorough look at how a decision aid affects patient's and physician's decision making.
