Opening Reception for Conifer Trees, Bark Beetles, and Fire
With artist Catherine Chalmers
Please join us for the opening reception of Catherine Chalmers’s debut Michigan exhibition Conifer Trees, Bark Beetles, and Fire immediately following Chalmer's Penny Stamps Lecture at the Michigan Theater. See the exhibition, meet the artist, and enjoy some light refreshments. All are welcome!
About Conifer Trees, Bark Beetles, and Fire: The exhibition delves into the dramas unfolding in America’s western forests. With imagery and materials gathered during her extensive fieldwork in the Rocky Mountains, she reveals the fragile interplay among trees, insects, and wildfire. Chalmers’s visual language is both beautiful and unsettling – a meditation on the forces reshaping alpine ecosystems. Catherine Chalmers is the Jean Yokes Woodhead Visiting Artist at the Institute for the Humanities.
