Dr. Grace Burleson: Leveraging Design Science to Advance the Social Impact of Engineering

This talk presents design science as a discipline dedicated to improving engineering practice through systematic, evidence-based approaches to design. By situating engineering challenges within broader human and societal contexts, design science provides tools and methods for advancing not only technical outcomes but also social impact. Dr. Grace Burleson, assistant professor in the Paul M Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder, will share examples from her research group that demonstrate how design science supports socially responsible and impactful engineering. She brings a unique perspective that bridges engineering and the social sciences, having earned her PhD in Design Science from the University of Michigan and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Anthropology from Oregon State University.
