PDF Accessibility & Remediation
Learn the essentials of creating accessible PDFs! This workshop will cover the pros and cons of the PDF format, with information on accessible alternatives and how to apply fixes to existing PDFs to make them more accessible.
For files that must be PDFs, we will demonstrate key accessibility techniques in Adobe Acrobat. These include generating machine-readable text for scanned documents; properly exporting content from Microsoft Word to PDF; understanding and applying tags to document content; identifying and correcting accessibility issues in images, tables, and linked content; fixing reading order; adding document metadata; learning which PDF accessibility standards to follow; and using accessibility checkers to identify and remediate issues.
Attendees will also gain access to curated resources and tutorials for mastering advanced PDF accessibility techniques.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioning services will be provided. If you need additional accommodations to participate in this webinar, please email the ADA Coordinator at ADAcoordinator@umich.edu.
