Five Contemporary Plays, and Perspectives on King Lear

5 Plays class ($40) meets Tuesdays, Sept 17 - Nov 5, at Brookhaven Manor, 401 W. Oakbrook Dr.
We will read and discuss a group of contemporary plays from several different traditions and we will analyze events and trends in contemporary American theater. The plays will be read in class and members are expected to take part in class readings and discussion. A list of plays will be made available so participants can obtain copies. Thorne Compton is a retired faculty member from the University of South Carolina.


King Lear class ($35) meets Tues and Thurs Sept 17-Oct 3, at Genesis of Ann Arbor, 2309 Packard.
This intensive, three-week class will study the play which critic Harold Bloom called "the height of literary experience." We will discuss the play in the first week. In the second week we will view and discuss "Three Lears" (a DVD) and "The Dresser", a 1983 film. The final week will be a screening and discussion of "RAN", a 1985 film by Akira Kurosawa. Taught by Marilyn Scott.
