Four Plays by Sophocles

Class meets Wednesdays, September 18 - November 27. No class on October 2, 9 and 16.
We will read and discuss the plays "Philoctetes", "Ajax", "Electra" and "The Women of Trachis", all of which are available in the paperback edition, "The Complete Greek Tragedies", Volume IV by David Grene and Richmonde Lattimore. Although not a classics scholar, Terrance Sandalow has devoted a fair amount of study during retirement to Greek tragedy.
